cold dog in Chicago area snow

Chicagoland Chills: Ice, Snow, & Cold..Oh, my!

When people know you’re in the dog walking world, they talk to you a lot about the weather. In the summer, we often hear “Dog walking must be the perfect job!” In the winter (especially this winter with Chicagoland’s Polar Vortex) that often turns to, “Dog walking must be really hard!”

Yes, the winter challenges our Pet Sitters. You’ve got to bundle up, find a parking spot in the mounds of snow, take your boots off in the house, put on the pups’ coats & booties, encourage pups to take care of business in the cold, wipe the snow off pups (stop to blow your nose), take your boots off again, take the pups’ layers off, etc. It’s a few extra steps, BUT, we love it! We are so lucky to swoop into your home in the middle of the day and let your pup know he or she is loved and cared for.

However your pups feel about the cold, they love to see their favorite Pet Sitter each time he or she visits. As for us, getting licks on our frozen noses makes winter weather worth it!

And kitty visits this time of year? Now THOSE are the cat’s meow! πŸ˜‰

Laura is one of our brave, strong souls who bikes in all four seasons. We are especially proud of her for braving this Chicago winter..Polar Vortex has got nothing on this outdoor gal! Laura navigates through the West Loop, loving all the pups & kitties in this hip neighborhood.

Here she is pictured with Barkley, a pup she walks every day. Barkley LOVES the cold and snow!

4th Annual Department of Corrections Doggie Dash Tallahassee fun run

Join OUG! Tallahassee at Florida Department of Corrections’ 4th Annual DC Doggie Dash

It’s that time of year again..the weather is just perfect for the 4th Annual DC Doggie Dash 5K and 1 mile fun run in beautiful Southwood! The Dash is March 15th and registration starts bright and early at 7:30am. Don’t miss the K-9 Unit demonstration at 10:30am. Proceeds will benefit the K-9 Units and Dog Obedience programs of the Florida Department of Corrections.

Since one of my own sweet pups graduated from one of the phenomenal DC dog obedience programs, this cause is near and dear to my heart. These programs give both the inmate and the dogs a second chance at life. Please check out the wonderful dogs available for adoption at Florida Department of Corrections’ Web site.

This is a leave-your-pups-at-home event so all of the attention is on the wonderful dogs ready for their forever homes. Visit this event’s listing for more info.

Please come out and show your support for the K-9 Units and the DC dog programs!

Denver & Boulder Office Dog Jack

Meet Denver & Boulder’s Office Security & Quality Control Dog Officer, Jack!

I’m in charge of: Office Security & Quality Control Officer. Responsibilities include hourly perimeter checks in the office, checking out all smells, auditing treat supply, training sitters on head and butt scratching techniques, and sniffing down visitors.

My furry family: I live with a bunch of girls who drive me crazy! One of my sisters is an Australian Cattle dog mix who’s always stealing my bed and another sister is a fat orange kitty who never wants to play or share food.

Super power: If you could have one super power what would it be? The ability to leap tall buildings (I am a Great Pyrenees after all…).

Best Thing Ever: Snow!! I love everything about the snow-it holds a ton of good smells, it’s delicious and refreshing, it is the best to roll around in, and I blend into it so well!

Hidden Talent: I can’t wait for my solo backpacking trip this summer to the south of France! I’ll start in Pau and make my way to Cauterets in 7 days with hikes exploring exquisite lakes, shepherds’ huts, and rugged glacier-carved scenery. And I’m totally excited for all of the cheese too!!

Life Philosophy: I believe in the power of long, thoughtful walks, the breeze in your fur, and other simple pleasures like rolling in the grass. Life should be full of treats, snuggles, and belly rubs!

Denver Boulder Maxfund-No-Kill-Shelter-Donations

Denver & Boulder’s Hands for Paws Donation Drive To Benefit Maxfund No-Kill Shelter!

The Out-U-Go! Hands for Paws donation drive benefiting the Maxfund No-Kill Shelter in Denver was a huge success this year! Once again, our awesome pet parents donated a ton of supplies that the Maxfund really needed.

Last month, we dropped off a truckload of the supplies our pet sitters picked up from your homes (leashes, dog beds, food & treats, paper towels, cleaning supplies, and more) to the Maxfund. They were so grateful to receive your gifts!

THANK U to everyone who helped make it happen!

Meet Barkley, World Cup “Most Valuable Pup”

Meet our pal, Barkley, the World Cup “Most Valuable Pup”!! We’ve had the pleasure of watching this handsome devil grow up.

Barkley’s most favorite toy is his soccer ball–it’s almost as big as he is! He even head butts the ball like PelΓ© himself. Barkley makes for an impressive goalie despite his small stature!
